Spread across thousands of miles and dressed not in cap and gown but in whatever suited their fancy, 2,337 graduates of the Î÷¹ÏÓ°ÊÓ;Verne celebrated their achievements in the university’s first-ever virtual commencement live-streamed on January 30.
On November 11, the Î÷¹ÏÓ°ÊÓ;Verne celebrated Veterans Day with a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off the renovation of the newly renamed Sara and Michael Abraham Center for Veteran Student Success. To celebrate the start of construction safely amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the university hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on the central campus in La Verne and streamed it online for public viewing.
On November 8, the Cultural and Natural History Collections at the Î÷¹ÏÓ°ÊÓ;Verne will host its inaugural Influential Voices speaker series showcasing diverse, influential voices from across the world.
The Î÷¹ÏÓ°ÊÓ;Verne Model United Nations team won both Distinguished Delegation and Best Delegate Awards at the Southern Regional Model United Nations conference. A multitude of delegates attended the three-day conference, which was held online this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thanks to a significant gift from attorney and alumnus Frank J. Lizarraga, Jr. ’80, the Î÷¹ÏÓ°ÊÓ;Verne has endowed its first dean. Lizarraga’s gift supports the dean of the College of Law, a position currently held by Kevin S. Marshall, JD, MPA, PhD. Effective immediately, Marshall assumes the title of the Frank Lizarraga Endowed Dean of the College of Law.
The Î÷¹ÏÓ°ÊÓ;Verne College of Law awarded its inaugural Brad Baldwin and Christopher Mendez Legacy Scholarship to Kissy Martinez in recognition of her interest in and commitment to providing legal support to immigrants.
The Î÷¹ÏÓ°ÊÓ;Verne has appointed Shannon Mathews as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Her term begins on January 4, 2021.
The Î÷¹ÏÓ°ÊÓ;Verne celebrates essential healthcare workers for National Physician Assistant (PA) Week. This national event is celebrated yearly from Oct. 6-12 in recognition of PAs and their contributions to the healthcare profession.
On Friday, Sept. 11, the Î÷¹ÏÓ°ÊÓ;Verne welcomed the new academic year with the first ever virtual Convocation ceremony. Students, faculty, staff, trustees, alumni, and friends of the university were invited to join the event online as one community.
