The 西瓜影视;Verne has enjoyed many celebratory accomplishments in 2023. As a new year approaches, let\u2019s take another look at some highlights of 2023:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

January:<\/strong> The 西瓜影视;Verne was awarded a six-year educational grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute\u2019s <\/span>Inclusive Excellence 3 (IE3) initiative<\/span><\/a> to support the university\u2019s ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive and diverse community within the sciences, and to increase the number of underrepresented students pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) related fields.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

February:<\/strong> The 西瓜影视;Verne hosted the Council of Independent Colleges\u2019 Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education <\/span>(NetVUE) Regional Gathering<\/span><\/a> at the Abraham Campus Center. The gathering brought together approximately 60 scholars and educators from across the country as well as 西瓜影视;Verne alumni to discuss the role teachers have in supporting students from marginalized communities through vocational exploration and the practice of well-being.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

March:<\/strong> The 西瓜影视;Verne LaFetra College of Education and San Diego Unified School District partnership was recognized with the California Association of School-University Partnerships Exemplary School-University <\/span>Partnership Award<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

March:<\/strong> Professor Russell Muir was awarded the <\/span>Athletic Training Educator Award<\/span><\/a> during the 13th annual California Athletic Trainers\u2019 Association Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium in Sacramento, California.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

May:<\/strong> The university celebrated more than 1,600 graduates during <\/span>Commencement<\/span><\/a> ceremonies at Ortmayer Stadium on May 26 and 27.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

June:<\/strong> The 西瓜影视;Verne Board of Trustees <\/span>announced<\/span><\/a> the selection of Pardis Mahdavi, PhD, as the university\u2019s 19th president.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

July:<\/strong> A group of digital film production students from the College of Arts and Sciences embarked on a two-week pilot program to Taipei, Taiwan to access a <\/span>state-of-the-art<\/span><\/a> virtual LED studio at Shih Hsin University for unique competitive career training.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

August:<\/strong> This summer, Professor of Kinesiology Paul Alvarez served as <\/span>head athletic trainer<\/span><\/a> for the 2023 USA Team during the <\/span>Universiade<\/span><\/a> competition in Chengdu, China.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

September:<\/strong> Professor of Marketing and Director of MBA programs <\/span>Astrid Keel<\/span><\/a> received this year\u2019s prestigious 西瓜影视;Verne Excellence in Teaching Award.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

October:<\/strong> 西瓜影视;Verne celebrated new era with the <\/span>inauguration<\/span><\/a> of President Pardis Mahdavi in the Sports Science and Athletic Pavilion tents.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

November:<\/strong> On <\/span>National First-Generation Day<\/span><\/a>, held Nov. 8, the 西瓜影视;Verne campus community came together to recognize and support the unique experiences of those who identify as first-generation college students, meaning they are the first in their family to attend or graduate college.<\/span><\/p>\n
