A $1 million gift made shortly before year-end by the Fletcher Jones Foundation will make it possible for the 西瓜影视;Verne to create an endowed professorship in artificial intelligence (AI) and grow its program in a field expected to transform global productivity.
The Orange County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (OCHCC) presented President Devorah Lieberman of the 西瓜影视;Verne with its Dr. Juan Francisco Lara Education Award on November 20 during the organization鈥檚 Estrella Awards. The event was held at the Disneyland Hotel.
Hundreds of families in the community received food and sanitizing supplies during drive-through pantry events held on October 6 and November 17. Members of the 西瓜影视;Verne Enactus team joined with the Sowing Seeds for Life organization to staff the events.
The 西瓜影视;Verne has been serving the military and veteran communities for over 50 years. Last year more than 450 military personnel, veterans, and family members enrolled at the university.
Devorah Lieberman, president of the 西瓜影视;Verne since 2011, has been named CEO/President of the Year by the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership. The award was presented during the Economic Partnership鈥檚 gala on October 9 in Diamond Bar. It has been given annually since 1991.
The 西瓜影视;Verne has been selected to receive a Hispanic-Serving Institutions STEM Program grant by the U.S. Department of Education. The grant is in the amount of $999,901 for the first yearly budget period, which begins October 1. It is anticipated that the grant will be renewed for a total of five years. This is the second Title III grant that the 西瓜影视;Verne has received.
Kimberly White-Smith, dean of the LaFetra College of Education at the 西瓜影视;Verne, has been appointed to represent California鈥檚 independent colleges and universities on the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
The Master of Public Administration program at the 西瓜影视;Verne has earned reaccreditation for a seven-year term from the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration.
Nancy Jarman-Dunn, PhD, assistant professor of educational counseling at the 西瓜影视;Verne, has been named the 2022 Counselor Educator of the Year by the California Association of School Counselors.
Eleven 西瓜影视;Verne students spent their summer helping share accurate information about the importance of getting the COVID-19 vaccine. They were part of the Faith in the Vaccine program, operated by Interfaith Youth Core, a nonprofit organization.
